Adaeze Oreh

Dr. Adaeze Oreh is a Consultant Family Physician, Public Health Specialist, and the Honourable Commissioner for Health in Rivers State. Prior to her appointment, she was the Pioneer Country Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics for Nigerias National Blood Service Commission (NBSC), and a Senior Health Policy Advisor with Nigerias Federal Ministry of Health. With over two decades of private and public healthcare experience, she was a Member of the pioneer Governing Council of Pamo University of Medical Sciences - Nigerias first private university of medical sciences. She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme, the Aspen Institute, the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Royal Society of Public Health, and a Member of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood Global Advisory Group and the International Society of Blood Transfusion COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma Working Group. 

She advocates for respectful, quality healthcare, health equity, universal health coverage, and quality medical education, and was invited to share her perspectives at the 74th United Nations General Assembly in 2019. She is one of 15 accomplished 'Amujae Leaders' in Africa awarded by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development. Dr Oreh was named a Neglected Tropical Diseases Champion by the Global First Ladies Alliance and The End Fund, and most recently, National Self-Care Champion for Sexual and Reproductive Health by the White Ribbon Alliance. In 2021, she was awarded Best Poster Prizes by the International Society of Blood Transfusion and British Blood Transfusion Society respectively for research she led on COVID-19 and blood services. Dr. Adaeze Oreh is a recipient of the 2021 Montegut Global Scholars award by the World Organization of Family Doctors and the American Board of Family Medicine Foundation and has been named one of Business Days 50 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria. She has written over 125 publications on health systems and policy in peer-reviewed journals and mainstream media and is the co-author of Lessons Life Has Taught Me and Sickle Cell Disease in Sub-Saharan Africa.
